A market design analysis of the Chinese Creative Industries

The People’s Republic of China is shifting from a manufacturing based economy towards a more service and knowledge driven economy. Indicating a higher role of knowledge and the use of creative content as a commodity; such economic shifts have triggered the Creative Industries in developing economies in the past and China is following this trend.

However, for such an industry to flourish a functioning market system is necessary and for the Chinese situation it remains unclear if that is the case.

The analysis played out on this site follows a market design perspective which prescribes three requirements a market needs to meet in order to function; thickness, congestion, and market safety.  The main premise being that due to a poor intellectual property rights regime, market safety will be the most disruptive factor for market functioning amongst the three.

The analysis on this sit will test this premise, based on the perception of a pool of creative content producers active in China.
